Beas River Tragedy: 1.5 Lakh Compensation for Victim's families

A day after Himachal Pradesh High Court turned serious and took the case of washing away of 25 Hyderabad engineering students in Beas river, Mandi as suo moto, Himachal Pradesh government has finally initiated damage control steps. HP government has announced a compensation of Rs 1.5 Lakh to victims families. Three officials, including site engineer, have been suspended by the government and launched a probe into the issue.

Union Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju, AP Cabinet Minister P. Narayana and Telangana Home Minister Nayani Narsimha Reddy are closely monitoring the rescue operations. So far, five bodies, identified as Rambabu, Vijetha, Aishwarya Gampala, Lakshmi Gayatri and Devasish Bose, have been traced. And search for others is going on briskly.

Over 50 second year E.I.E students of VNR Vignan Jyothi Engineering College, Bachupalli, Hyderabad have gone to sudy tour with three college staff a week ago. While on their way to Manali on Sunday evening, a group of 25 students get off their travel-bus to click pictures along the Beas river in Mandi. With sudden lift of gates of Largi dam, water flow increased with-in no time and that resulted in washing away of 25 students including 6 girl students.
