There is no dearth of news surrounding the red sandalwood stories coming from Andhra Pradesh. It was known for hectic smuggling activities recently. The talk is that some of the forest smugglers who hail from Karnataka have entered Andhra Pradesh for this notorious business.
Sources now say that apart from news that TDP government may sell the existing seized sandalwood which may fetch close to Rs.10, 000 crores in the market, something interesting is in the offing. There are reports that the entire Seshachalam forests spanning around 100-200 km from Tirupathi to Cuddapah has red sandalwood tress which are reportedly worth Rs.26 lakh crores.
The authorities have been neglecting this vast wealth since few years. It is heard that TDP boss Naidu may seek permission from PM NaMo to use the money that comes with selling these trees and virtually clearing Seshachalam to fund new capital and other needs for new state of AP in return for a promise to plant as many new saplings again immediately.
