Needless
to say, Sekhar Kammula's latest flick 'Anamika' is not as exciting as
its original, 'Kahani'. Audiences are not as thrilled or shocked as they
experienced it with Vidya Balan's thunderous performance. While we
can't blame Nayan's one-woman show, let's get into the deepest of
comparisons, and we warn you of spoilers.
Right from the start of remaking this movie, Sekhar Kammula is busy saying that he is making loads of changes to the script along with writer Yandamuri Veerendranath. But in the name of localizing the concept, Sekhar changed the major twist of the tale. In Kahani, Vidya searches for her husband, but finally wants to meet an unknown terrorist and kills him to avenge her husband's death which she already knows about. Here in Anamika, Nayantara traces her husband and kills him as she knows that he is a terrorist. Maybe Sekhar might have felt that a woman killing her own husband will be more terrific than killing someone else. Probably this didn't work well, and removal of that pregnancy part to heroine's characterization is also a big letdown.
Moreover, Kahani looks gripping as the movie deals lot about Indian Intelligence Bureau, National Data Centre and Investigative officers very closely, which common people don't know much. In Anamika, Sekhar chopped them, and showed that a police officer from Anti Terrorist Squad and a Home Minister are after her. Literally this made the authenticity of the orginial story failed. We have seen thousands of Telugu films where a home minister colludes with terrorists to create panic. Both Sekhar and Yandamuri removed key ideas of Kahani and added their own tried-and-tested silly 1990s ideas.
