By-election Likely in Allagadda?

The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Andhra Pradesh Bhanwar Lal has made it clear that slain YSR Congress leader Shoba Nagireddy, who passed away in a tragic road accident recently, will be one among contestants for Allagadda constituency in upcoming general elections. However, EC contradicted previous reports that casting vote to Shobha Nagireddy would be counted as NOTA (None of The Above) option. According to Bhanwar Lal, if Shobha gets highest number of votes, EC would call off the election and will again conduct a by-election.

There were speculations that if Shobha gets maximum votes, the very next contestant with maximum votes (who stands second to Shobha) would be elected as MLA. With none other than EC coming out in open and clearing the air, now it is clear that by-election would be likely if Shobha Nagireddy gets maximum votes. This is certainly blessing in disguise for YSR Congress Party.

Since YSR Congress is just registered party but not recognised political party, EC could not call off Allagadda Assembly polls, due to its limitations, despite the death of its tall leader Shobha Nagireddy.
